We’ve often said it: The Residential Support Professionals (RSP’s) are the cornerstone of FIL. Yet if you want to be the best, you have to hire the best and then do continuous training.
To that end, FIL brought together all of our RSP’s for an “RSP Reboot.”
Led by Director of Residential Services and Program Health Betty Cadet, this training dug deep into what it means to be an RSP, setting forth clear expectations and accountabilities.
As Executive Director, Mark Jacoby said, “Whether someone has been here 20 years or 20 minutes everyone needs to get the same message.”
Covering a variety of topics including “What is an RSP?,” “What is Residential Training?,” documentation, family communications, medication administration, medical emergencies, finances and vehicle safety just to name a few, this comprehensive training reinforced FIL’s values and beliefs.
It also included role playing scenarios to assist our RSP’s in better handling the day to day challenges they face.
The best part? The response was overwhelmingly positive. The RSP’s felt energized, united and listened to.
The proof will obviously be seen in how we perform going forward, but from the feedback we’ve received from you, our families, you’ve already noticed positive changes.
And we’re just getting started.
A second RSP Reboot Training is in the works, this time focusing on hands-on training in the residents apartments.
In addition, FIL has put together an internal committee to establish standardized and ongoing trainings for our staff.
While we are not licensed by any accrediting agencies we want to ensure that we are following best practices – because our residents deserve that.
THANK YOU FIL RSP’s for being open to continuous improvement!
