We all love our pets. They’re tremendous companions who give us incredible amounts of love and affection.
However, they are also a lot of work and responsibility. That is why the question of whether a resident should take on the responsibility of a pet should be thoroughly thought-through before making an adoption.
Here are some key questions to ask yourself:
- Does the resident have time to take care of the animal?
- Do they have the money for feeding, housing and veterinary care?
- Will the pet be left alone when the resident is involved in FIL activities?
- What happens when the resident goes on vacation?
- What happens in the case of a hurricane?
- What happens in any other emergency?
Please understand that when your loved one takes a pet into her home, the responsibility for the pet’s care is with the resident and their family. As much as we love to help, the FIL staff is not equipped for pet care.
So, before making this important decision, remember that FIL’s staff cannot look after animals during resident vacations or other like situations.
