FIL firmly believes in the power of employment. It’s a true sign of growing independence for those who wish to travel that path.
We know that employment isn’t only achieved with interviewing, dressing appropriately and showing up on time. It’s also about the ability of the individual to get to work on their own.
To that end, FIL is working with our employed residents or volunteers in the community to build the skills needed to get to and from work on their own.
We’re doing this for two reasons:
- If a person is independent enough to work, they’re more than likely independent enough to get themself there and back on their own
- Because our team is doing such a great job helping our residents find jobs, it is putting a resource strain on our staff
No. 2 is a good problem to have, but now it calls for a solution in the form of greater residence independence, which just happens to be one of our pillars.
We will be working with our residents and their families to determine what is the best way to take this next step forward, whether that means walking, public transportation, TOPS, Uber, biking or other modes.
Of course, FIL will be there when needed, but we think this is a tremendous opportunity for our residents to continue growing, while continuing to ensure everyone’s safety.
