A Home Built by Families
More than 40 years ago, two families met in a movie theater lobby and found they shared a dream. The Bedermans and the Mishners wanted their children with cognitive disabilities to live with dignity and independence.
Six months later, the Foundation for Independent Living opened. The first residents moved into a modest apartment. Today FIL is a private, nonprofit, family-founded community in Coconut Creek, Florida.
