The Savannah Bananas tagline is “Fans First. Entertaining Always.” As the residents of FIL recently found out, that is certainly true.
Making their way up to West Palm Beach, the residents of FIL weren’t quite sure what to expect, other than they were going to see a baseball game.
What they saw was so much more than a baseball game. The pictures show just some of the excitement and new friends that were made.
A huge shout out to the security guard who worked hard to get us our great seats (it was general admission) and to the members of the Savannah Bananas team for welcoming us so graciously.
Did our residents enjoy themselves? We think the smiles prove that point but here’s some things we were told as well:
“It was awesome!”
“We had so much fun!”
“When can we go back?!”
FIL Enrichment’s goal is to educate our residents in various day-to-day life skills.
To achieve this, the Enrichment Specialists set up stretch goals for the Residents to accomplish. They then implement the goals through structured activities and group sessions which can include things such as public speaking, journaling, decision-making, creative thinking, interpersonal relationship discussions, self-awareness, how to build empathy and coping with stress and emotions.
The FIL residents then put these life skills into action when going out in the community to better their independence.
There’s never an activity that doesn’t include some form of teachable moment – even when it seems like we’re just having fun.
