Social Skills Out in the Community

Who doesn’t love a good donut? But did you ever think that donuts might just build independence?

We show a lot of pictures of our residents having fun, and fun is important. But FIL never stops looking for ways that our residents can grow and gain new skills.

That certainly happened on a recent stop at Dandee Donuts. Our residents were asking questions and speaking with the waitstaff about how to leave tips, when you should do so and how much to leave.

When one of our residents was a bit too generous, the Dandee Donuts staff patiently talked them through what was an appropriate amount. Thank you to the amazing staff at Dandee Donuts!

FIL’s goal is to assist our individuals in reaching their maximum level of independence, while understanding that the appropriate level is different for each individual.

However, when you believe that every moment is an opportunity to learn, no height is too far to reach or to tasty to try!
