What’s a Business Meeting at FIL?

    A business meeting at FIL

We frequently talk about “We mentioned this at this week’s Business Meeting” or “We informed everyone of that at this week’s Business Meeting,” but what is a Business Meeting?

FIL’s Business Meetings, typically held on Tuesday’s right after dinner, are a great way to bring everyone together to discuss the going’s on at FIL.

It’s a chance for the Leadership Team of FIL to let the residents know what’s happening, what’s coming up, and answer any questions they might have. A typical Business Meeting will start with the Executive Director giving a presentation about a variety of topics. Topics we’ve recently discussed include:

    • The ongoing pool repairs at Cypress Shores
    • The status of repairs to the sidewalks in Lyons Plaza
    • An interactive unveiling of our new Mission/Vision and Values
    • Upcoming big events at FIL
    • Voting on improvements that are happening in the Clubhouse

We always end by taking questions directly from the residents. Then it’s typically one of our Senior Managers turn to talk about all of the activities that are coming up in the week.

The residents will get a schedule handed to them, weekend activity sign ups will go up on the wall and you will frequently see the residents writing in their time management books everything they’re being told.

We often end by taking some questions from the residents.

But these meetings aren’t about staff. They are really about the residents.

Get the most up-to-date information on Events at FIL by reviewing our Online Events Calendar.

We’ve had residents do presentations about a recent trip. We even had a resident recently do a presentation so we all better understood their disability.

And of course we celebrate our residents’ accomplishments – from Special Olympics, to birthdays, to new jobs and so much more.

While we call it a Business Meeting, it really is a great time for the FIL community to come together and celebrate each other.
